How Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Allen is using the cloud to save government money and improve citizen services.

Moving Government Data to the Cloud Saves Money

The DOD and VA are benefiting from modern infrastructure

Today, more than 90% of Fortune 500 companies use cloud computing services. The federal government, in contrast, still relies on 1,700 expensive and outdated data centers. The advantages of cloud computing are clear. Companies that have migrated to the cloud see better productivity, improved customer experience, and better product and service innovations. They also realize significant cost savings.

Cloud systems are vastly more secure than on-premises data centers. They are more effective at safeguarding sensitive information—like intelligence related to national security or citizens’ personal information. Cloud systems are also flexible. They can be quickly scaled up or down as needs change, and they make it easier to unleash the full power of AI and other data analysis tools.Ìý

Transition to the Cloud Without Disruption

Although many in government recognize the cost-saving and data-sharing benefits of migrating to the cloud, they fear the implementation process might disrupt the services they provide to Americans.Ìý

Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Allen has the technology to transition agencies to the cloud without inconveniencing citizens. We’ve partnered with agencies to deliver more than 1,000 cloud computing projects over the past decade.

Here are two examples of how our work has saved taxpayers money while making government more efficient.

  • Making It Easier (and More Fun) to Visit National Parks: Hundreds of millions of people visit America’s National Parks each year. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Allen joined with 14 federal partners, including the U.S. Forest Service, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the National Park Service, to build Recreation.gov—a cloud-based app and website—that makes these visits easier to coordinate and more fun.

With more than 53 million site visitors in fiscal year 2024, Recreation.gov generated more than $321 million in revenue for the federal government and handled nearly 11 million annual reservations. The platform is also improving user experience: Since going live, the customer call volume has decreased by 75%, and the app has a 4.9 rating (out of 5) in the Apple App Store.

  • Improving Services for Veterans: More than 5 million veterans became eligible for expanded benefits in 2022. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Allen developed and deployed a variety of cloud-enabled tech solutions to make processing the claims, which average 1,300 pages, faster and easier. The technology-automated processes made reviewing documents nine times more efficient, and pre-completed sections of required forms for veterans. The time saved is 675,000 hours annually, or about 77 years.
